Aurora Municipal Center

For the Aurora Municipal Center, BA received a previously-conceived program plan for the building and was asked to review it.

The initial steps in programming with a previously-conceived program involved (1) testing the program to ensure it worked and (2) when found necessary because of the failures of the previous program plan, completely restarted the programming process. Establishing work space and overall space allocation standards (3) was the next crucial step at the micro level to ensure that the entire building worked at the macro level. Next, BA studied all macro-level site forces (4) and illustrated the allocation of space and future space needs (5) according to verified work-efficiency adjacencies between departments. Once the space allocation and adjacency diagrams were approved, and BA laid out the floor plans in detail, BA diagrammed the complex spaces within (6) to study acoustic performance, A/V, viewing distances, procession and all functional and technological performance criteria. Once the spaces within the building had been resolved for the interior design factors, BA studied, through sections, the use of daylighting (7) and other site factors to confirm that all interior design decisions worked harmoniously with the exterior forces.

The BA-verified program was used by design-build team to design and complete the Aurora Municipal Center (8).
