Hewlett-Packard Harmony Park Technology Center
Four years after working with Hewlett-Packard on a testing facility in Douglas County, Colorado, Barber Architecture was again hired for the master planning and building design of a new campus in Fort Collins, Colorado. A phased master plan was crafted for the 120-acre, former agricultural site. Ultimately, 1,000,000 square feet of flexible lab/office space was planned in six buildings arranged along a linear green space.
Studies were conducted for HP to evaluate combinations of structure, air distribution, lighting, daylighting and communication systems. The objective was to find a combination that provided for rapid, nearly continuous reconfiguration of a high-quality work environment using energy-efficient building systems. Raised access floor throughout, an under-floor air distribution system, and indirect lighting insure the flexibility and quality work environment required for such a dynamic company. The campus was also planned to utilize a "Cool Town" concept of campus-wide wireless networking that allowed for complete portability and connectivity between all electronic devices within the campus, which would save workers time and reduce printed media amounts.
